Comet Hale-Bopp with meteor trailComet Hale-Bopp with meteor to the upper left of ion tail.  This image was taken on the morning of 03/09/97 with a 50mm lens, 400asa film, and about a 2 minute exposure (clockdrive running).  I didn't see the meteor during the exposure.  You can just begin to see the North American Nebula above the comet, and just below the white star in the middle (Deneb, in Cygnus).  Taken at Farrington Point, Lake Jordan, N.C.

Comet Hale-Bopp over Xway Lake - full moon illuminationComet Hale-Bopp in the evening over Xway Lake, N.C.  This image was taken on the evening of 03/23/97 with a 28mm lens, 400asa film, and about a 30 exposure (tripod).  Although it looks like daytime, it was at night.  A full moon (which later was 92% partially eclipsed) was in the sky behind me and illuminated the surroundings.  You can see the comet reflected in the water at the very bottom, center of the frame.

Comet Hale-Bopp in northern Scotland countyComet Hale-Bopp in the evening over northern Scotland county (Sandhills area), N.C.  This image was taken on the evening of 03/29/97. It was about a 3 minute (clockdrive running) piggy-back shot with a 50mm lens. The film was Fugi Super G 800 Plus. This was from the sandhills area south of Aberdeen. They were also holding military maneuvers in the direction of the comet when this was taken. There were bomb flashes and booms. M34 can be seen to the upper left of the comet and the Perseus double cluster can be seen to the upper right of the comet.

Comet Hale-Bopp from my backyardComet Hale-Bopp from my backyard near Fuquay-Varina, N.C.  This image was taken on the evening of 04/01/97. It was a 35sec tripod shot with a 50mm lens. The film was Fugi Super G 800 Plus.  M34 can be seen to the upper left of the comet and the double cluster can be seen to the upper right of the comet.  I must say, after all the effort I put into taking pictures of the comet with my telescope, this simple tripod shot is my favorite.
